Add an Extra Layer of Protection and Beauty to Your Pool With Pool Liners
December 3, 2008 by admin
Being a relatively recent invention, swimming pool liners have become nearly indispensable for any pool owner who wants an extra layer of protection and beauty for his pool.
Pool liners come in all colors and designs. Unless you have the money to pay for a hugely expensive custom paint job, they add a look you simply can’t get any other way. Instead of a traditional flat green-blue look you can get real style.
That style can be laid out in a number of ways – either extending over the entire surface, or covering only the bottom of the swimming pool. Most pool liners available will offer the first option.
Two basic styles achieve that effect: beaded pool liners and overlap pool liners.
Overlap pool liners install just under the top of the pool. The rail at the top is temporarily removed and the liner is draped over the walls. Plastic clips then secure it into place and the top rails are replaced. Naturally, that effort is easier when the pool is first being constructed.
Beaded pool liners, by comparison, have a groove-lip mechanism. The lip snaps into a track that is placed around the rim and this so-called bead receiver holds the liner in place.
Some swimming pool liners have standard sizes and sections that can make it easy to put into place. A round pool, for example, can be lined by a series of overlapping sections that eventually cover the surface.
Others will need to be custom made for your swimming pool. Fortunately, there are several outfits that will do that and the cost is often only modestly higher than a pre-made section. Thanks to modern manufacturing techniques it’s now possible to make something to order for not much more than the cost of a standard piece.
Thickness varies, ranging from 20 to 28 gauge liners. Not surprisingly, warranties are typically longer for the thicker material. Twenty gauge often carries a 20 year warranty with 28 gauge offering 25 years.
All are made from sturdy, completely safe vinyl that stands up to any normal kind of use without tearing or pieces breaking off. The material is completely inert to pool maintenance chemicals like shock and algaecides.
A good pool liner will virtually eliminate the need to repaint your pool. It will help reduce algae build up. It can provide a non-slip surface to add safety to an above ground pool.
Best of all, the variety of patterns available is simply stunning. A Mediterranean look is easy to achieve with a liner that has a mottled blue pattern trimmed with a Greek-pool style design above the water surface. Brown is another popular choice, with colors that suggest the sands of tropical beaches and a pattern that can be Hawaiian, geometric, and more.
Check out the dozens of different styles and you’ll soon put one on your shopping list.
